Academic Technologies and Legal Concerns
The use of Technologies in teaching often touches on legal concerns, including:
- FERPA: student education records, including class rosters, should be considered when using cloud services such as Google Docs.
- HDCP: High Definition Copyright Protection, a technical form of protection put in place by the recording industry, can prevent people from being able to share video from high definition sources in some cases.
- DMCA: copying of DVDs is subject to the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. People who come to the Academic Technology Center to request a copy of all or part of a DVD will be asked to review the DMCA provisions and will be asked to sign off on them.
Our team of instructional designers, technology support staff, video and audio specialists, computer lab experts, and student technology assistants, are here to help!
